Learning from failure and united by vision, Teaty Team won second place in the National Business Plan Competition at IPB Bogor Vocational School
Students of the Undergraduate Management Study Program of the Faculty of Economics and Business, Udayana University (FEB Unud) class of 2021, Ni Komang Risa Pebriyanthi and Ni Luh Santi Wahyuni, along with their colleagues from the Economics Study Program of the FEB Unud class of 2021, Ni Wayan Diah Okta Wardani, won second place in the Gen Z's Entrepreneurship Festival 2022 Business Plan Competition at the IPB Bogor Vocational School National level, which was held from October 6, 2022, to December 2, 2022. Gen Z's Entrepreneur Festival (GEFest) 2022 is an event organized by the Digital Communication and Media Study Program Students of IPB University Vocational School with an entrepreneurial theme that aims to encourage Gen Z to advance the Indonesian economy with creative and innovative business ideas and contribute to SDGs No. 8, namely decent work and economic growth, in the era of Society 5.0.
The unity of vision to continue to upgrade themselves and the hard and soft skills of all team members, which began with the desire to try new things to find a new atmosphere that could raise the spirit at that time, finally made them dare to take part in the national-level competition, In addition, starting from a meeting because they are members of one of the organizations in the FEB Unud environment and through the invitation of one of his team members armed with motivation so that life is not monotonous in the campus environment, plus high curiosity related to how to make a good business plan design to qualify for the final round, finally the three people formed a team with the name Teaty Team. In addition, the ambition to get 24 credits in the next semester also became an impetus for them to participate in the competition. Their limited knowledge and experience in creating business ideas did not dampen their enthusiasm to participate in the business competition.
Based on information from Teaty Team, from the beginning of the team formation until they had registered for the initial registration of the competition, they had no business idea at all. Various long discussions, both offline and through online meeting applications, were carried out while tucked in with organizational activities, which at that time were quite busy but did not make them give up and get tired, until finally the idea was born to make tea drinks with dates as a substitute for sugar. The first stage of selection, namely making a Business Model Canvas (BMC), is the beginning of their efforts to learn how to design BMC designs in design applications and make nine BMC components with great care and long discussions. Previously, it had never occurred to them to advance to the final round after seeing rivals from well-known university teams in Indonesia. "When we succeeded in creating the Business Model Canvas and its design on the sidelines of our busy schedule, we were already proud of the process from zero because the most important thing for us was the process and the experience gained, while the results were a later matter and a bonus of hard work. But we were surprised when, with the announcement of the top 10 finalists, our team name became the best team number 7 of dozens of teams, "said Diah Okta.
Not wanting to waste the opportunity that initially there was no supervisor, the Teaty Team decided to find a supervisor who would help guide them to maximize their preparation for the final round. The guidance, support, and direction from I Gusti Made Suwandana, S.E., M.M., as their supervisor was very much felt by them in the process of preparing for the final round. "Our Dospem certainly played an important role in our preparation for the final because we had also prepared presentations until the night, and he gave us a lot of input on the sidelines of his busy schedule, and for that, we really appreciate it and are grateful," said Santi Wahyuni. Of course, thanks to that, the Teaty Team expressed their gratitude for the guidance and full support from the supervisor so that they could deliver them to second place in the competition.
The entire series of competitions, from the submission of works to the business presentation stage, was conducted online, but the announcement of the winners was done offline, and all finalists were expected to come to Bogor. The technicalities of the competition were listed in the competition booklet, and Teaty Tim was aware of that. However, according to their statement, if it is used as an obstacle to try, then they will never know if this opportunity will come again in the future, and with a capital of determination, the problem of the competition being conducted offline is a later matter. "Considering our situation, it seems that we don't have enough funds to go offline to Bogor, and considering our rather busy activities on campus, it seems that we won't be able to go there. But if we pass the final round, we haven't tried the competition yet. So, let's just try first; the important thing is that we get the process and experience first; we can go to Bogor later," said Diah Okta.
Sure enough, when they were declared qualified for the final, the Teaty Team was confused because, at that time, they participated in an activity on the same day as the announcement of the winner, accompanied by limited funds. They also tried to contact the competition committee, and it turned out that there was wisdom from the organizers that all finalists were not required to attend Bogor. "If we had given up with limited funds and were afraid to try at that time and with various existing activities, then we would never have won the competition, and through a challenging process with various long discussions, it turns out that God has provided a way for anyone who does not give up with circumstances and is not afraid to fail. We never stop thanking God, and thank you to the supervisor and family who have supported us, and thanks to teamwork, all this would never have happened," concluded the Teaty Team compactly.
Students are the next generation of the nation and carry great hopes for the milestones of a nation's success. In addition, students are also an important tool for the progress of the country through the development of their abilities and soft skills. In line with this, Risa Pebriyanthi, the head of the Teaty Team, revealed that, as students, we must be able to take advantage of all the opportunities we have. "Time is expensive; don't waste your time on unimportant drama; the opportunity to compete in the period of seeking a bachelor's degree will not be repeated. Our job now is to always do our best, let it flow, and just do our best for every challenge. If you say you will be tired, yes, of course, because the name of the challenge must be fought for, and the name of the trial must be tried to win. Never give up; if you are tired, try to take a short break, but don't stop on the way," said Risa Pebriyanthi with her closing message. (okt/rsa/snt)
